《》▶▶Shutdown and Unprecedented Security Arrangements in Kashmir◀◀《》 A complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir on Monday against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit and the roads of Srinagar city are deserted as not a single vehicle is plying on roads and not a single shop or any business establishment is open in the civil lines area. Modi is scheduled to address his maiden election rally at Shar-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in the summer capital. Shutdown call has been given by separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mohammad Yasin Malik and Shabir Ahmad Shah. Geelani is undergoing house arrest while as Malik and Shah are detained in district Jail Islamabad and Kupwara respectively. Unprecedented security arrangements are in place in and around Srinagar and as many as 4000 thousand personnel have been deployed in and around the venue. Security personnel have taken positions and everybody moving towards Lal Chowk is being frisked and questioned at every nook and corner. Hundreds of barricades and nakas have been erected in and around the city and not a single vehicle is allowed to ply on MA road or residence road. “I am confused to understand whether Indian Prime Minister is visiting or war has been declared,” said Mohammad Afzal, a resident of Abhi Guzar in the Lal Chowk. Authorities said that extraordinary security has been put in place on the Prime Minister’s visit to Srinagar in the wake of last Friday’s militant attacks. Officials confirmed that more than 4,000 security personnel drawn from central and state security forces have been deployed on the security in and around the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, where Modi will address a BJP election rally. “This is in addition to security force deployment at other places in Srinagar city”, they said. Restrictions have also been imposed in five police station areas of Srinagar. The areas placed under restrictions fall under the jurisdiction of Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Khanyar and Safakadal. Modi is scheduled to visit the Badami Bagh cantonment headquarters of the army’s 15 corps in Srinagar before arriving at the public rally venue.
