"Sickness Syndrome" is the name often given to individuals who have low grade flu like symptoms - fatigue or low energy, aching joints, low mood, foggy brain and poor concentration - but do not necessarily have a diagnosed viral infection. I see this "Syndrome" increasingly in practise. Non specific symptoms and just not feeling well. Very often I find that these people also present with GI complaints. Or people who come and see me specifically for their IBS have these symptoms too. Research now shows that there is a close relationship between the gut and mitochondria (our energy producing power houses). A leaky gut may be linked with leaky mitochondria which means poor energy production and often a burden on the liver to increased toxin production from gram negative bacteria (the "bad bacteria" in our gut). Looking after gut/mitochondria/liver health is key for these people. And this is what I help them to do :)
