*Sigh* Here we go again with a popular fashion image that is really disrespectful. The HIPSTER HEADDRESS. Most of you on my friends list know that to wear this type of head dress and feathers, you must earn the right. (so dont mind me posting about this subject again and again...) This type of imagery is so harmful, misleading and wrong. First Nations people have so many obstacles and stereotypes thrust upon them already, and this is the best time to educate everyone, and discuss these sorts of issues. So if anyone on my friends list thinks that this is ok, please take a moment to think about this appropriation. Wearing this form of headdress is NOT OK. Not for fun, not for fashion, and not all nations wear this sort of headdress. So just because someone is an Indian, they may not have the right to wear this either. If you have questions about these issues, ask someone who may have information on the subject. Ask in a respectful manner, and if the person you ask does not have the answer, ask if they can lead you to the right person(s) Then please listen to the answer. Educate, empower and empathize. Would you like it if someone made a sacred item from your culture into a pop culture thing? Lets work together. Chi miigwech....always.
