“Single mothers particularly are automatically Democratic because of the benefits. They need benefits to survive ... Alright, lets say thats true. If it is then we need to change our society so that no one needs benefits to live. That every class structure presently in place needs to be revamped. That a class of women need benefits to survive just tells me whoever set up this deal, didnt do that good of a job. And its not unreasonable to look at the way money is distributed. Yes, this is a money issue, across the board. Because in the end, it is always about money. You can have all the character in the world, but if you dont have enough money, you may have to make choices that are disagreeable to those who do have money, just in order to get by. So, how do we change the paradigm? Its not like weve not been trying. And when someone is actually trying to slam and shame single mothers, because they need money to survive, he just told us what the actual problem is. We all need more money. Well, most of us. So why wasnt everyones basic human needs taken into consideration when the rules were being written? or who gets paid how much to do what job? Who decided that a first year attorney was worth more than the teacher who taught them? And considering most teachers are women and still most attorneys are men, how did that happen? Everyday, I wake up and wonder what the solution is. I know theres a very simple way of leveling the playing field, and I just cant put my finger on it, because unfortunately, I spend more hours fighting fires that should never be. I know theres an easy, logical way of life being more equitable than what we have now. And maybe its in the statement about single mothers need benefits. The plain and simple truth lies in that statement. But, its not just about single mothers any more. We have an entire generation that now thinks its acceptable for a CEO to make millions and millions more than the people that make the business work and need benefits to survive. Who think unions have outlived their usefulness while people from management up have employment contracts negotiated by lawyers. Who now accept jobs where the salaries have been lowered, without benefits, because there isnt anything else available. Because someone changed the paradigm. In the 1990s companies and corporations decided it cost less to use temporary workers instead of employees, thus eliminating the need for benefits because now everyone was an independent contractor. Thing is, when they started cutting the workforce loose, what was being paid hourly did recognize that independent contractors were paid a higher hourly rate than if they were employees to cover their health insurance. And here we are today. We are coming up on what might be the most important election of our lifetime. This is the election where we say its time to level the playing field. Its time to put representatives in office that understand nobody should need benefits to survive and change the money paradigm. Whether is raising salaries or lowering the cost of living, no single group of people in this country should be suffering because they dont have enough money. Its time to change the paradigm.
