“Smiling panda Si Jia plays on a swing on Halloween Day” Annette Yuen, Si Jia’s adoptive parent visited Si Jia at Yunnan Safari Park. We are happy to see the big smile on Si Jia’s face. Her trademark smiling face is back. We hope she will stay happy. According to Annette, Si Jia will have to wait until 2015 before she could return to her hometown Sichuan. Initially, Si Jia (思嘉), Qian Qian (芊芊) and Mei Xi aka Mei Qian (美茜) all less than 2 years old, did not come to their foster home at Yunnan alone, their keepers moved to Yunnan to care for them after catastrophe earthquake in 2008 destroyed their home. All three pandas were jittery from the quake and extremely scared of loud noises. They felt safe in a new home with their keepers. But in the last two years, Si Jia has lost two keepers from Wolong who took care of her since she was one-year old. It may take some time for her to bond to new keepers and to trust them completely. Si Jia started to show sign of depression after her best friend Mei Xi left in March this year for mating and breeding, leaving Si Jia alone in Kunming. She felt abandoned. For those that have questioned Si Jia’s depression and sadness, try to be compassionate toward her. Si Jia, be happy! It won’t be long till you return home!
