So finally some time to fully dedicate myself to Venice. I had the habitual heart stopping moments while studying the program. The usual Asian feast is on (grazie Italia) and lot´s more to please everyone. I am now psychologicaly prepared to face new works by: 1) Alejandro Inarritu (Mexican superstar director of Dog Lovers) 2) Kim Ki Duk (Korean God of films such as Samaritan girl or Pieta) 3) Miranda July (the darling of American indie cinema which directed the gorgeous You, myself and everyone we know) 4) Joshua Oppenheimer (the documentarist of the moment after the act of killing) 5) Abel Ferrara (the beast that made Bad lieutenant) 6) Fatih Akin (German/Turkish director of the Edge of heaven) 7) Xavier Beauvois (who did one of the most unfairly underrated French films of the last few years, Of gods and men) 8) Andrew Niccol (the man behind Gattaca, an often underrated masterpeice) 9) Roy Andersson (Swedish master of You, the living) 10) Shinya Tsukamoto (director of the unforgettable Tetsu series) 11) Ulrich Seidl (The man behind Dog days) 12) Manoel de Oliveira (being Portuguese i shall be happy even though i don´t get him at all) 13) David Gordon Green (director of the impressive All the real girls) 14) Barry Levinson (veteran director of Bugsy) Plus new works by Benoit Jacquot, Hideo Nakata, Alex de la Iglesia and Emir Kusturica. Not to mention yet another version of Lars von Trier´s Nynphomaniac (i wonder if he will show up with another bag around his head. If yes i hope this time is plastic and very well sealed) ...only to mention a few. See you in Italy at the end of the month.
