“Son of man, I have made you a watchman over the house of Israel. When you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me. Ezekiel 3:17 God says that Ezekiel is a watchman over Israel. The watchman had a very important job in making sure that cities were protected and secure. The watchman was placed high on the city walls, the roofs of gatehouses, or on a tower. Their job was to be a lookout in order to give a warning when danger was approaching. The watchman had to remain awake, and if they saw danger approaching, then they would sound a trumpet so that the city was aware that danger was heading their way. The watchman does not have the responsibility of removing, or stopping, the danger that is coming. The job of the watchman is to sound the alarm. Whether the people respond to the alarm or not isn’t the concern of the watchman. As long as the watchman sounds the alarm, he has done his job. But, if the watchman falls asleep on the job, becomes distracted with other things, or fails to sound the alarm, then he is responsible for any destruction that does happen. God is telling Ezekiel that he is a watchman. He has the responsibility of warning people of the coming judgment. Ezekiel has the responsibility of making sure people have been warned. This isn’t a job that God gave to Ezekiel only, but He has also given this responsibility to each one of us. Every one of us has people who reside within the walls of our life? There are classmates at school, co-workers, neighbors, family members, or those we work out with at the gym, etc. God has placed these people within the spheres of our life so that we can warn them of the coming judgment, and to introduce them to Jesus so that they can be saved and avoid the coming judgment. We are not responsible for their response to the Gospel, but we are responsible for sharing the truth of God’s Word with them. As long as we are faithful to share God’s Good News with them, we have done what we have been asked to do. We cannot “make” anyone accept the Gospel, all we can do is share it with them, pray for them, and leave the results to the Holy Spirit. How are you doing as a watchman? Be blessed for He is God!
