,,,,,,Speak truth,,,,,,, The aged mother with heavy heart and tears in her eyes and broken voice accorded permission to her son to embark upon jorney to Baghdad for higher studies. While leaving home his mother advised him to observe strictly the following instructions - Always speak truth come what may. - Obey Almighty’s commands - Abstain from unlawful and forbidden things etc. - Always be pleased with the Divine decree. Young boy left his mother and joined a caravan for Baghdad. The caravan reached a city in Hamdaan safely. When it left from there and headed for a mountainous region, sixty robbers attacked whose leader was Ahmed Badwi. The people in the caravan did not posses the strength to fight them and the robbers snatched all the valuables from them and sat down to distribute it amongst themselves. Young boy was standing peacefully at one side. No one noticed him. Seeing that he was a child they did not search him. One of the robbers asked him as if he had anything. Boy told him fearlessly, “Yes, I have forty dinars” The robber did not believe him and walked away. Another robber asked him the same question and he gave the same reply. This robber also did not believe him, laughed and walked away. The robber went to where his leader was and the stolen articles were being distributed. He mentioned the words of the young boy and the leader told him to bring the boy before him. young boy was taken to the leader of the robbers and he asked him, “Tell me the truth, do you have any thing valuable?” boy replied, “Yes! I have already told your comrades that I have forty dinars.” The leader of the robbers asked, “Where are they?” boy replied, “They are stitched in my clothes under my arm pits.” The leader of the robbers checked and found the dinars there. He was shocked to see the boldness and bravery of this young boy and was stunned to see that the young boy was so fearless and confident. He asked, ‘Who made you so brave”? Young boy said, “When I was leaving home, my respected and elderly mother advised me to always speak the truth and not to lie. Why would I disregard the advice of my mother for 40 dinars?” The leader of the robber felt the impact of these words right on his heart, his hardened heart started melting and tears started gushing forth from his eyes which cleansed the darkness and evil that was in his heart. He said, “O child! You obeyed the advice and words of your mother so obediently and I have been disobeying and breaking the commands of my Lord throught my life subjecting the travellers to affliction and mistery.” He insistently repented to God and vowed to give up banditry for good. He immediately ordered his accomplices to return all the money and other belongings to the travellers. The other robbers followed their chief and repented and became true Muslims.
