Specialist, Dean of Students Office | Illinois State University The Specialist provides advisement to the Diversity Advocacy Organizations (DAOs) -- three ethnic and one LGBTIA student organization (Asian Pacific-American Coalition, Association of Latin American Students, Black Student Union, and Pride). The advisement includes the education about university policies and the groups advocacy roles within their respective constituencies, as well as the provision of professional expertise in the planning, implementation, and assessment of their programs. The Specialist works both with the executive boards and their general assembly groups. The specialist coordinates ongoing skills assessment, training, and development for members of the DAO and implements a year-long curriculum of personal and organizational development. Required Qualifications: 1. Bachelors degree 2. At least three years full-time experience advising college student organizations (The three years of related professional experience are required only of candidates who do not have a masters degree.) 3. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources. Desired Qualifications: 1. Masters degree with emphasis in College Student Personnel or Development, Counseling, Leadership, Social Work, Education or related area 2. At least three years full-time experience coordinating and evaluating co-curricular programs serving students from diverse backgrounds 3. At least three years full-time administrative experience in planning, budgeting, organizing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting of projects 4. An understanding of best practices in diversity and inclusion work in higher education 5. Strategic planning skills; ability to identify opportunities and challenges, and move a system toward positive change 6. Demonstrated effectiveness interfacing with multiple constituencies, including campus administrators, faculty, staff, students, and professional partners 7. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with senior campus leaders, including faculty and administrators 8. Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds; commitment to personal cultural competency 9. Experience in training/facilitation, project management, curriculum development, designing learning outcomes, education, and/or related skill sets 10. Excellent writing, communication, presentation and public speaking skills 11.
