*Stake Presidency Message ~ September* Peace that the Gospel Brings It was a beautiful fall morning. My wife Isobel and I were up early driving to Salt Lake to catch a flight. We had flown together many times but not many of those were overseas. Leaving the country adds a new level of security and a few more lines. Finally it was time to board the plane heading for London, England. I burrowed in for my usual nap and was surprised to wake as, far too soon in the trip, we were descending to land. We put down in Kansas City! There were planes landing on all runways and just pulling off with nowhere to go. No one was taking off as it was a disorganized mess. Word came to us from a lady with a cell phone that the Twin Towers had been bombed as well as the Sears Tower in Chicago, the White House, and the Pentagon. Chaos ruled. After an extended wait, we were allowed to taxi to the terminal and de-plane. The luggage from all of the flights was coming onto the carousels at the same time with no one to organize it. Several of us stepped in and started trying to help in some way with the bags. There were long lines for the pay phone, ticket counters, and car rentals and no one was being allowed to come onto the airport property. Several of us jumped onto the Hertz Car Rental bus which was headed to the perimeter of the airport. From there we all walked down a very busy highway to an adjacent building, hoping to find a phone we could use. I can still remember the sound of those little plastic tires on our suitcases as they ran across the highway pavement. Of course we had chosen to travel on September 11th, 13 years ago. Each year when that date comes around I give thanks for our safety and for the peace in our daily lives. I am thankful for that peace I feel when I am sitting in Sacrament Meeting on Sunday, worshiping, and when I am doing the things the Lord would have me do. D & C 6:23--Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have from God? D &C 19:23--Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my spirit, and you shall have peace in me. President Roskelley 2nd Counselor Logan YSA 3rd Stake Presidency
