“Stanzas 138-145” (Part 3 of 5) 141. “Ere long I bare fruit, and throve full well, I grew and waxed in wisdom; word following word, I found me words, deed following deed, I wrought deeds.” They learn the Songs that Hel had shown them, and they then become greater than they once were, having cultivated such divinity. He grows in Wisdom/Mind, and he gains the Hamingja of his former self, of the noble dead in the grave, and they become them. His name, honour, deeds, status, possessions and words of his past are now a part of them now. (What we have thus far: The initiate disguised as death/a dead Ôðinn, being escorted by Ôðinn [wisdom/mind/inspiration], faces Hel [the actress as her], learns the sacred songs and the Secrets [Runes], and finds the dead Baldr [The body of his ancestor/the body of an honoured/noble Forebear] within the Grave Mound [The hall of the fallen, Valhalla] and becomes Baldr [White/Pure/Life/Meaning], being reborn [the initiate becomes this deceased Forebear, the Forebear is reincarnated by having their name given to the Initiate, their possessions, and Honour]) 142. “Hidden secrets shalt thou seek and interpret signs, many symbols of might and power, by the great Singer painted by the high powers fashioned, graved by the Utterer of gods.” They have become chosen, an honoured with a Hamingja. They can pick up the valuables the dead was buried with and claim them to be their own. This is a good time to reflect on the typical description you hear/read of regarding Valhalla. It is indeed the hall of the fallen. Or rather, hall of the chosen. It is the center of the Honoured Noble dead’s grave mound. Complete with all of their possessions. Hence the description of “Tables of Mail”, “Roof of Shields”, “Railings of Spears”, etc. Therefore, no. The requirement of reaching Valhalla is not by simply “Dying in Battle”. You actually need to have honour and essentially deserve your place as Noble. Not be a Hollywood inspired Barbarian, like the modern “Viking” trend likes to ignorantly believe and promote.
