Starring I watched this today and had forgotten alot of it so glad I did - its a sad tale that sees four people getting to know each other as they wait for their plane to depart, each sharing details of their life and family - however, tragedy strikes and their plane crashes killing nearly everyone on board and we discover three out of the four friends have perished - the survivor, David Trask (Merrill) decides to take it upon himself to contact the families of his three friends to share their confidences - each story is touched by tragedy - the last of the three makes me cry the most - this is where Trask goes to meet Mrs Marie Hoke (Bette Davis) - Eddie Hoke had been a brash in your face joker who was too much for some but endeared himself to Trask and impressed the others by showing a photo of his glamorous wife in her bathing suit - on meeting her however Track discovers that she is a bedridden invalid whose looks have faded from ill health but Mrs Hoke reveals to him the real man - she tells him that everyone, including her, though Hoke to be a bore, an insufferable idiot, and she ran away with her lover leaving a note for Eddie to inform him - however soon after they leave Mrs Hoke suffers a terrible accident which results in her being paralysed and whilst still in hospital, seriously ill, her lover flees - we see her in the hospital, in an iron lung . . . and then, we see the footsteps of a visitor advance towards her . . . and there is her husband Eddie loving and smiling - Hello Beautiful he says - and Mrs Hoke tells Trask that she knows what real love is because of Eddie (Im crying again! The film is worth watching for this little story alone - Bette Davis steals the show in my opinion) - after hearing her story Trask confronts his own demons and calls his loving wife to tell her hes coming home which concludes this very bittersweet film - BB
