(Stefanie) Amanzimtoti (KZN) A young Toti woman was shocked after beach-goers and a fisherman did nothing to assist her and her three-year-old son after they were robbed by a man in the Chain Rocks area on Saturday morning, 10 January. Sharna Cronje said her boyfriend Shea Johnston had gone into the water to surf at about 10.30am when a man came from behind her and grabbed her bag. Despite a struggle with him, he fled into the bushes with her bag. “I shouted for my boyfriend to help and a couple to my left and some fishermen just stared at me,” she said, still traumatized by the event. “They saw what was going on.” Walking home to fetch spare car keys, they spotted the thief with his younger brother on School Road. With help from a passing motorist, Shea managed to catch the 13-year-old, but unfortunately his older brother escaped. A Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) vehicle and Chubb Security stopped to assist and the teenager was taken to the police station for a follow-up investigation. “Thank you to the couple who stopped and offered us a lift home after we caught the one robber,” said Sharna. “And to the man in the yellow Uno who helped my boyfriend catch him and lent us his phone. The fisherman and couple who were on the beach just watched as I was getting robbed while I had a little child with me. While shouting and screaming for attention, still no nobody had the decency to do anything.”
