**Strike paralyses Imo State* - Fuel stations in Imo State have run dry following an indefinite strike by petrol station owners. The operators downed their pumps after government ordered them to pay N 1 million ($6 000) to retain their licences. From Monday, petrol stations were all shutdown and there was a serious scarcity of petroleum products. Movement became difficult and fewer commercial and private vehicles were on the roads. “We cannot afford the demand by the Imo state government to pay N1 million for us to stay in business. We resolved to remain under lock and key until the matter is resolved,” Emeka Njuku, a fuel station operator, said. Imo State Commissioner for Information, Strategy, Culture and Tourism, Chinedu Offor, said government was addressing the issue. He is optimistic that the strike will be resolved but attributed the crisis to a misunderstanding between the operators and the state government.
