"Subject: Thousands May Miss Out on Heat Credit An estimated 30,0000 families in southeast Michigan may be missing out on the extra help they might get from the 2012 Home Heating Credit. With the September 30 deadline just weeks away, DTE Energy and Accounting Aid Society are partnering to notify all possible DTE customers by mail about the credit. The Home Heating Credit can mean extra cash or an energy draft (voucher) that qualified renters and homeowners can use as payment toward current of future heating bills. As part of its free income tax services, Accounting Aid Society (AAS) will prepare the credit at no charge and e-file it to the State of Michigan. Eligibility for the Home Heating Credit is based on annual household income, the number of household members, and other factors. State income tax returns do not have to be filed to receive the credit, so many who are eligible for it are not required to file taxes. The 2012 heat credit covers the period from Nov. 1, 2011 to Oct. 31, 2012. To find out if you qualify for the Home Heating Credit, and to make an appointment, call AAS at 313-651-1015 or 1-866-673-0873 toll-free." - Vicky Billington, Communications Coordinator
