#Syria #News #freedom #Revolution Syrian Truth l Press TV l ‘Lebanon can’t host more Syria refugees’ Lebanese President Michel Sleiman has warned that his country is unable to host any more Syrian refugees escaping violence in their homeland. During a meeting with the ambassadors of the permanent members of the UN Security Council in Beirut on Friday, Sleiman urged the world body to pay more attention to the burden that the influx of Syrian refugees has had on Lebanon. He also called for equal responsibility of receiving the refugees, tightening the control of refugee status, hosting refugees inside Syria, and increasing the international aids to the Lebanese government in this regard. The latest figures from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) indicate that over half a million Syrians have sheltered in Lebanon after fleeing unrest in their country. But the figure covers those who have registered with the UNHCR and those who are waiting to register. Lebanese government officials, aid workers and experts believe that the refugee figure is higher by an additional several hundred thousand people, and it does not include the tens of thousands of displaced Syrians in Lebanon who are well-off or otherwise supporting themselves, and not relying on humanitarian assistance. Syria has been gripped by a deadly unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of government forces, have been killed in the violence. Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals. The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are supporting the militants. Several international human rights organizations have accused militants operating in Syria of committing war crimes. presstv.ir/detail/2013/06/08/307753/lebanon-cant-host-more-syria-refugees/
