•TALKING SPORT with PHINEAS MUKWAZVO (Coach Or Agent?) It might have sounded rather weird to many when we heard that Warriors coach Ian Gorowa had made an “impassioned’’ plea to his former South African Premier League side Mamelodi Sundowns not to waste any more time in signing Warriors and Bantu Rovers’ player Kudakwashe Mahachi. The South African giants had before that shown interest in the talented winger for some time and had reportedly offered him a deal a fortnight ago. But Gorowa believes his former team had taken their time to get the players’ signature and to him that was not acceptable. “He has been on trials with Sundowns and they should not waste any more time, but sign him quickly,” Gorowa is said to have told MTNFootball “He is a talented player with a big heart although his finishing touch needs to improve,” added Gorowa. Mahachi has also been strongly linked with moves to Zimbabwe bitter rivals Dynamos and Highlanders. Gorowa went on to say that even if they (Sundowns) did not sign Mahachi, he had six players on the current team who could attract the attention of several South African teams. He could not mention the six players; however, our suspicions have been confirmed. Is Ian Gorowa doubling up as a player agent? Perhaps, among those six players he mentioned are some of those who misfired in our first Chan encounter against Morocco and were surprisingly given the second “bite of the cherry’’ in the second match against Uganda. Perhaps, one of our readers summed it all up, when, he wrote: “Gorowa selected his best friends instead of the best soccer players in the country. How can you go to battle and expect to win without firing a single bullet? Those guys are more than likely to come back with zero goals. Please here don’t blame Zifa or Government because they tried here. Maybe the money should have gone towards civil servants salaries ngcono”. An interesting observation is that of the strikers whom Gorowa took to South Africa, none scored more than six goals in the domestic league and expecting them to score at Chan was just wishful thinking. Two strikers Aleck Marime and Njabulo Ncube scored more goals than those strikers and playing Milton Ncube as a left back when he is known to thrive as a left wing back leaves a lot of questions than answers while leaving Peter “Rio’’ Moyo out of a team with midfielders who could not play might have sent a lot of tongues wagging. When somebody within the national team behaves like a player agent, the players will pay allegiance to only that one person, and in our case that person is our coach. We might be wrong, but just like the sun rises from the East and sets in the West, one day we will be proved right. Meanwhile, we can only wish our Warriors the best of luck as they take on Burkina Faso tomorrow. Go Warriors Go. #SIYINQABA
