#TBT Here’s a favorite post of ours from the past: This quote came just in time as were wrapping up Fig.03. Thank you Ethel / DPR-barcelona !! #Fig03 is FREE w/ a Tweet ---> bit.ly/fig-03 Fig.03, published in September of 2013, features an Essay by Carl Lostritto and #Drawings from #Drafters: Molly ONeill Carl Lostritto Jessie Shu Tianchu Jeffrey Ellse Chris T. Cornelius #DrafterQuote -- Heres a brief Excerpt: How to Make Sure that Time, Force, and Flaws dont Disappear, Despite the Computer The notion of disappearance looms over any computed drawing; much can disappear between thinking and the building of models. But who said anything about models? Why cant we just draw and translate the drawing into architecture? Fortunately and unfortunately, models are the unavoidable core of computation and theyre the territory of contemporary practice. First, its important to note that the three-dimensional objects we build physically and digitally to represent buildings are just one kind of model. A model can be defined as anything that reduces or simplifies a condition, thing, or event in order to make operating on it possible or more convenient. The ability to operate on a model is one of the salient criteria that separates models from drawings. Although drawings can be modified–---think of erasing a line made with a pencil---their main value comes from what they reveal as they are seen and made. Models are valuable through their use. Drawings are valuable because they reveal something about the act of their making.
