#TD40 Week 34 - 40 Years in 40 Weeks- Spotlight On: Logistics Emergency Support Teamwork Unexpected circumstances are part of the job for many people, yet our Logistics operations teams have especially gone above and beyond the call of duty over the years to weather some storms and keep our business running smoothly. And its been a true team effort. In 2005, the Miami, Fla. logistics center (LC) experienced rain inside the building in the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma. While initial indications were slight damage to the roof, it was the day after when water flooded the main floor where inventory was located. A group of employees, led by Louis De Oliveira, Vice President, Latin America Operations, volunteered to work overnight to clear product from storage racks to prevent water damage. The following day, Facilities and Maintenance technicians arrived with supplies from headquarters in Clearwater, leading to three days of roof work. Executive Perspective: In the logistics centers, we are successful by exemplifying teamwork between departments. We can’t succeed unless we have “Goods In” working with “Goods Out” to balance our labor with the orders that we must ship on time. We also practice that teamwork in the communities where we work. If there is support we need to provide the communities, it’s our standard practice of teamwork that we demonstrate. - Darryl Branch, Senior Vice President, U.S. Logistics and Integration.
