[TED/TEDx] In the thread following Jeremy Nicholas post about - TopicsExpress

[TED/TEDx] In the thread following Jeremy Nicholas post about TEDx, a number of PSA members expressed an ambition to deliver a TEDx speech. Great. But allow me to advocate for the devil for a moment. TED is arguably a threat to paid speakers, by showing that fantastic speeches, with memorable and valuable messages, can be delivered for no reward. TEDs little offspring, TEDx, has the same values - brilliant ideas, delivered for free. The TED and TEDx rules require no commercial agenda, no pseudoscience and discourage self-help and motivational topics. On the face of it, TED and TEDx events are contrary to what many of us do for a living. Nonetheless, many professional speakers have an ambition to speak under the TEDx banner. Ive done it myself. But why? (In my case, it was simply because someone asked me). Im neither pro- or anti-TED, but it was never on my bucket list. Why would speaking at TEDx be a good thing for a pro speaker to do?
