”THE CLOSER WALK” for Wednesday, March 19th, 2014 Matthew 7: 7- 11 (English Standard Version) Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! A friend of mine from Nashville, Tennessee, owns a chemical company. They do industrial sales. Any chemical used in manufacturing is offered by Seal Co. Gary has dozens of salespeople on the road. Some do very well. Others, do not. His best salespeople, Gary rides with just once every six months. His salespeople who need help, Gary rides with more often. The account I am sharing with you is what Gary Reynolds told me. He knows his salespeople know the product line. He quizzes them often. And, they know the “pitch”. Gary has them memorize it! This is the interesting part: Gary says that after a sales appointment, he and his salesperson will sit in his car and review the presentation. Gary congratulates them on the great job they did. Then he asks, “Do you know why the client didn’t buy?” The salesperson gives a puzzled grin, they shrug their shoulders and answer, “No”. Gary then says, “They didn’t buy because you never ASKED !” Gary says that his new salespeople will challenge that in disbelief. They’ll say, “Surely, I asked them to buy!” But, Gary will review with them everything that was said. And, they will see that at no point in the presentation or closing did the salesperson actually come right out and ask them to “buy”.
