‘THE MONUMENTS MEN’ George Clooney, Matt Damon. An unlikely World War II platoon are tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners. Clooney also directed and co-wrote the screenplay. Not as good as his “Good Night and Good Luck” first effort at directing a movie back in 2005, but does a good service bringing this true little known story to the theaters. With Bill Murray and John Goodman we also get a little crafty humor thrown into the serious fog of war. He wisely stayed away from making it a heroic shoot-em-up war story and stayed on the task at hand, saving millions of art pieces from destruction and the clutches of the Germans. 2 stars
