***THIS GORGEOUS LITTLE GEM IS AVAILABLE VIA THE PUBLIC SITE!*** A volunteer writes: Opal was found with three other dogs in Flatlands, and now finds herself separated from them at Brooklyn ACC. She is a petite little thing with smoky eyeliner and the cutest face. When I first met her, Opal wasnt even sure she should venture out of her cage and once outside she kept her tail tucked and kept a very watchful eye on me. When I knelt down and tried to coax her over she looked away and when I offered her a treat, I could tell it appealed to her, but she wasnt ready to accept it from me. We had a couple more similar walks - very businesslike, allowing her some fresh air and to use the bathroom...and then doggie playgroups started and Opal transformed! She LOVES dogs and is wonderful at engaging others in play and seems to have amazing canine social skills - even when faced with those that dont! She was now wagging her tail and even jumping on people for attention. Though she is still a little shy when she is flying solo, Opal is a far cry from the timid girl I first met. She playfully bounds like a bunny on walks, takes my treats, and comes over for petting. Opal might just need time to get to know strangers, or maybe wherever she came from she spent much more time with the other dogs, than getting attention from any human. She deserves a home where shell get lots of attention (and hopefully the interaction with other dogs she so loves!) - she shows a willingness and desire to bond and connect and is incredibly sweet....a gem!!
