***THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!*** SUPPORT THE ARTS IN HRM! Talk to your councillor about this by March 20. For four months last year, myself and seven other representatives from Halifaxs arts community volunteered our time to research and hammer out recommendations to the city to develop a better arts community. Much of what we ultimately recommended were measures that had already been recommended by many others, but had never been implemented. On March 20, councillors will vote to adopt these changes. We need YOUR SUPPORT to urge your city councillor to understand the value of the arts to HRM and why these measures will help develop a stronger community and - at the very least - be on par with the rest of the country. Two of the main recommendations: 1. Direct staff to include $300,000 in the 2014/15 budget and implement the Interim Professional Arts Organization Grant Program 2. Direct staff to initiate the creation of a professional arts and culture sector advisory committee with a peer jury process for 2015/16 Read the full document attached.
