~ TODAYS FRIDAY WITH CHEMO ~ H. G. Kaltenborn’s greeting, “There’s good news tonight,’ is holding up for me. Last week was my off week after 3 weeks of VELCADE/DECADRON infusions and Dexamethasone tablets. For me, today’s oncology conference after my current treatment with VELCADE chemotherapy is as long as mine with REVILIMID when I developed Pneumonia in my lungs and Thrombosis in my legs in July 2012. After a month of ICU hospitalization, lung surgery and 3 weeks in a rehabilitation facility returned home in September 2012. Tests found my Myeloma had become dormant (aka ‘smoldering myeloma’). Over the interval since then I’ve had test every ten weeks. However, the numbers on my September 2014 tests found my numbers on my Free Kappa spiked showing my Myeloma was re-activating. Although it remains the leading treatment for Myeloma, REVLIMID’s proclivity for causing lung problems and Thrombosis in some people caused Dr. Zielinski to now use VELCADE/DECADRON infusion therapy and Dexamethasone tablets instead. Thus far, my only noticeable side effect or symptom is growing fatigue and tiredness. My other test numbers are holding and a few, in particular my Creatnine are lowering, (good for my kidneys), and are improving. I am encouraged that my appetite is good and my weight is holding well. So, thankful for the outcome thus far, I look forward to see how I continue to feel this week and to my next tests after two more weeks of this treatment protocol. I appreciate your continued good wishes and support.
