*** TORNADO IN TORQUAY? *** #vscweather #stormpics Us here at VSC have been looking in awe at the images (courtesy of the article from 93.9 BayFM in Geelong) of a suspected tornado ripping through the town during the movement of the cold front that brought relief to the heatwave throughout Victoria yesterday afternoon. The cold front brought with it wind gusts up to 100km/h, leaving a trail of destruction in parts of the Surf Coast town. The local Bunnings stores sustained damage, where A-frames off the building went flying across the carpark, damaging vehicles. The suspected tornado also damaged homes. Pictures of the wind flying through the town and surrounding areas makes us all here wonder... Was there really a tornado? Discussion this morning led to several possibilities, with some of us considering that maybe it was a gustnado, more of a cousin to the real thing, as damage suggests winds were moving in a straight line direction, and the fact this weather phenomenon formed on the leading edge of the front, rather than to the rear of the storm in the updraft zone as many tornadoes normally do. That being said however, our most Severe Weather expert on our team, Johnny suspects its a gustnado. His suspicion arises from viewing footage provided to us by a VSC fan, and analysis of the images. Tell us what you think? Emily :) Images & source: 93.9 BayFM Geelong
