#TalentedButStuck TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR CAREER! The music industry is changing, and we are in a serious transition phase now. The days of artistes depending on record labels to make it, are coming to an end. Retail CD selling is becoming obsolete. Artistes now go on twitter to beg for their songs to be downloaded. . Just watch them if you dont believe me. So what hope is there for artistes now? It does sound dismal at first, but despite that fact that the model has changed, there is still a huge potential out there for a serious artiste who studies the changing trend and takes advantage of it. According to Chris Knab, It is no longer cost effective or even smart for a record company to sign a new artist, spend gobs of money on retail promotion and maybe see the same money back that was invested. It simply doesnt make any sense. We are living in a digital world now and we must prepare for it. That means that instead of being discovered (old school) you must truly be independent and become the entrepreneurial artist now (new school). You really have to train yourself in this new way of doing things in the industry right now, follow the new trend of promotion and the new way the business of music is being handled, because in this industry, only the strong will survive, and only the smart will last long! You can independently carve a niche for yourself and by the time a label does come along, you can negotiate your own terms or even turn them down if you dont like the deal. Look for interesting ways to get your music to the masses. TV sound tracks and adverts, movie sound tracks, ringtones, radio jingles, etc. whatever you can do to get your music out there..Bottom line is, THINK! Build your fanbase, build your database of industry contacts. Research and Study internet marketing and ways to get attention to your music . Use remote sites (such as MySpace, or Reverbnation) to attract new fans and get them to signup on your mailing list. Use the social media judiciously and effectively!
