***Thanks to Jerry Erickson, I was watching an interview with Bob Heil, who mentioned Stan Kann. Stan was a theater organist at the Fox Theater in St. Louis and elsewhere. He and his collection of vacuum cleaners appeared on the Johnny Carson show 77 times, 89 times on the Mike Douglas show. He developed the ability to recognize and diagnose vacuum cleaners by sound, and if, while walking down the street, he heard a cleaner he didnt recognize, he had no qualms about knocking on the door and asking to see the sweeper.Sometimes theyd say yes, and sometimes theyd say no, Kann told the Post-Dispatch interviewer.
