“The British are coming! The British are coming!” – to the Cabildo that is. One of the garments featured in our Battle of New Orleans exhibit is a costume jacket worn by a British “Redcoat” in the 1958 version of the Hollywood film The Buccaneer. Although the movie earned an Academy Award nomination for costume design, this garment is not historically accurate and illustrates the types of liberties taken by cinema studios when replicating period dress.
