Nov 20, 2014: Today, a video of a man beating a baby panda went viral. The video was taken at the panda kindergarten in Bifengxia base of the CCRCGP. The identity of two men in video, one dressed in black and the other one dressed in blue, both are keepers of the research center. The woman and the other man carrying water bottles in both hands are from the scientific research of Sichuan Agricultural University collecting samples in the panda kindergarten. The baby panda (Hua Ni 华妮 ) is active and lively, she likes to put her paws around keepers’ leg and bite them. So, the keeper used disciplinary action to break the bad habits by slapping the baby’s ears, nose and mouth. He did not mean to hurt the baby. This type of disciplinary approaches will not affect the health of the baby panda. The way the keeper demonstrated his love towards the baby panda may be lacking, therefore his action has been deeply hurting those who love giant pandas. We apologize for that. The said keeper has been lectured. We will include extra training sessions for all keepers. Lastly, sincere thanks and appreciation for your concern over the panda.
