~~~~The History, The Story~~~~ Phra Luang Phor Sothorn (Wat Sothorn) The Holy Buddha The origin of Luang Phor Sothorn todate has yet to be officially established. However, legend has it that once upon a time long long ago, a villager saw an object floating in the Bangpakong River rowed his boat out and discovered a bronze Buddha image. He tried retrieving the Buddha image but failed. He went back and asked for the help from other villagers but they also failed to retrieve the Buddha image to land. A monk passed by and saw what happened. He first asked the villagers to set up a small shrine and then asked the person who discovered the image to take one end of the saisin and tie it around the right hand thumb of the Buddha. The monk then began chanting and performed a welcome ceremony to receive the Buddha. Amazingly, the Buddha image was retrieved easily. Luang Phor Sothorn is the buddha image which is very sacred of Cha Cherng Sao Province. It is very well known not only thai people but also oversea people as well. Luang Phor Sothorn Buddha image was made from mortar , coated with black lacquer and covered with gold leaves. The Buddha image was built using Larn Chang Arts in meditation sitting posture, measures 1.98 meter high and 1.65 meter wide. His face is a full moon with a peaceful smile. Since the welcoming of the Buddha image, the Chacherngsao province began to prosper. In line with the prosperity of the province, the little shrine built to house the Buddha image was also developed into a temple known as Wat Hong, now Wat Sothorn Wararam Waravihan (วัดโสธรวราราม). In the year 2433, Chacherngsao province was plagued with epidemic and the villagers prayed and asked Luang Phor Sothorn for help. Miraculously, the epidemic soon disappeared. Reverence of Luang Phor Sothorn as prosperity and healing Buddha has continued to this day. Thousands of people from around the world travelled to the Chacherngsao province every year to worship Luang Phor Sothorn. Phra Buddha Sothorn becomes one of the main Buddha in Thai Buddhism. Also legend said Luang Phor Sothorn floated down the river from laos together with two buddha images named Luang Phor Wat Baan Laem ( Samut Songkram Province ) and Luang Phor Tor of Wat Bang Li temple ( Samut Phra Karn Province ) The floated Liang Phor Sothorn stored in front of sothorn temple about B.E 2300. many villagers tried to pull Luang Phor Sothorn from the water to river bank but their efforts were in vain. However it was happened that a medium to rescue by setting up a spiritual shrine to propitate by ar sacrifice and typing a blessed cord to the hand of Luang Phor Sothorn Buddha Image. Then he extended invitation to the Buddha Image to come ashore. It was very amazing that it moved easily toward the shore. Luang Phor Sothorn was there after enshrined in sothorn temple since that until now. Luang Phor Sothorn was well known to enriching ones prosperity ,promoting charms and loving kindness and fullfillment of ones wishes.
