“The Prophet’s Prayer” 2Ki 6:15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. “Prayer places us in touch with God’s viewpoint.” In this story out of the Old Testament, we find a servant of Elisha’s without God’s viewpoint. He could only see what was evident with his limited eyesight. All around were the enemies of God and God’s man. They were after Elisha per the request of the king of Syria. It is as if there were an Israelite in the camp of the Syrians and the king was hot for not being able to capture the troops of Israel and the king of the Jews. So word went out for the armies of Syria to get this man of God, Elisha. However, God’s man was in tune with God on the matter and knew who it was that gave him good success in the battles of life. Elisha was just doing what God wanted him to do by saving the king of Israel, God’s chosen people from the enemy. We are God’s people and the Lord God of heaven is constant in saving us from our enemy – Satan. When we pray, we know who holds tomorrow and what is in store for our lives as we follow the leadership of our commander and chief, Jesus Christ. In verse 17, we find that the man of God prayed and ask God to open the spiritual eyes of his servant. What this man beheld was incredible. Above the enemy was a heavenly host full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. “Success in spiritual work is dependent on prayer.” The man of God prayed again in verse 18, and the enemy which was coming down to him was inflicted with blindness. Elisha then brought the enemy to the king of Israel and they fed them and then sent them back home. What we see when we pray for God to get involved in our lives is incredible. Our Lord wants us to consult with Him about everything and not worry about anything. “Prayer connects us with God’s power and insight.” Just Pray!
