† The Runt † Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, The LORD has not chosen these. So he asked Jesse, Are these all the sons you have? There is still the youngest, Jesse answered. He is tending the sheep. Samuel said, Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives. 1 Samuel 16:9–11 NIV David had seven brothers who looked more suitable on the outside to be the next King than him. Samuel himself was ready to anoint Eliab but the Lord said: Do not consider his appearance or his height for I have rejected him. When Samuel asked if these were all of his sons, Jesse said there is still the youngest, He is tending the sheep. The word that Jesse used for David was the same we use for the “Runt”. Insignificant, lesser, small. David was anointed and went on to become the greatest king ever. God saw more inside of David than others. God knows your heart. Though you may be the least and not in a position of power yet, though you take care of smelly things others are too good to do, God sees you. There will be a reward. Every runt has his day.
