The court found evidence that McAllen lawyer Mark A. Cantu had been in collusion with a juror to maneuver the $3 million settlement from Ford, during a 2004 jury trial in the 404th state District Court presided over by former Judge Abel C. Limas. The recent Supreme Court finding upholds a subsequent District Court judgment that the fraud nullified the $3 million settlement. “We conclude that the circumstantial evidence (of fraud) in this case is legally sufficient,” the Supreme Court said. Cantu represented Ezequiel Castillo and others against Ford in a civil lawsuit in Limas’ court that ended in the $3 million award.
