(The following is a letter intended for Karen Davila, host of ABS-CBN, to call her attention to the sad plight suffered by Capiz residents in the aftermath of typhoon Yolanda. Due to poor internet signals this was not forwarded to her attention immediately. This is as well intended for other media outlets, for them to also give Capiz a space in their reportage) WE IN CAPIZ ARE ALSO VICTIMS OF YOLANDA By Carmen “Baby” Andrade More than two weeks have passed after Yolanda ravaged Roxas City but we are still dazed—still hearing the howling winds, the sound of falling trees, the sight of steel roofs blown away, the cracking of broken glasses… A day after the typhoon ,our electric power is totally out and trees and electric posts have scattered in the streets , making it impossible to go. The day after the storm, I realized how pitiful Roxas City is …. houses were flattened to the ground and wreckage was all over—big trees uprooted lined our streets and plaza , big buildings destroyed, fishpond washed out, fishing boats capsized—telltale signs of a typhoon stronger than Undang 29 years ago. We lost a number of lives in the coastal areas. It is only today that I was able to watch your ABS-CBN NEWS and the outpouring of help and relief operations for Leyte and Samar is admirable and worthy of praise. They indeed need help but the traumas they have gone through is something we can also relate because we also lost much in Roxas City and Capiz battered by the same storm that hit them with winds of 2300 kph for almost 3 hours . However, it pains me to think that the relief operations for Samar and Leyte are so much; yet our poor people in Capiz only received a drop of the downpour. Capiceños also lost their homes and they also feel the pain of hunger, the cold of the rain. Their homes are gone. Most of all, they need help. They are content with whatever little our LGU can give but still hope some will come. I wish you could put a story about Roxas City and Capiz. We are also victims of Yolanda and we lost much.
