"The last statement signed by the father Paulo Dall’Oglio, in July 2013, with 100 Syrian writers and artists, before being kidnapped by Al-Qaeda (ISIS) in Raqqa city: “Faithful to the sacrifices of the Syrian people and the long suffering and the courage in resisting tyranny and resentfulness, and observing the latest field, regional and international developments and what can be resulted politically and militarily in the coming weeks and months, and based on the National Pact document, which has been approved by the Syrian national opposition in Cairo on 3 July 2012, the signing persons of this statement, writers, artists and working in the different cultural fields, declare First: Their adherence to the principles in which the popular revolution has launched in March 2011, which are summarized by the slogans of freedom, dignity, social justice and national unity Second: Their support to the lively struggling forces for a democratic pluralist regime, and their concern for the independence of Syria and its safety and unity, and preserving the public and individual freedoms, and equality between all citizens without any form of discrimination Third: Their concern for the independence of the Syrian national decision, and abjuring involving Syria in the strategic and sectarian conflicts between regional powers Fourth: Their solid belief that the oppressive and corrupt regime, which has been capturing the fate of Syria since more than forty years, is the only side to hold responsibility for the catastrophic situations that the country passes through, and that the salvation of Syria requires toppling the regime with its entire symbols Fifth: Their aspiration for a political solution saving the Syrian lives and the unity of the Syrian soil, which requires that Bashar Assad and the regime pillars to step aside, and the transfer of authority under the supervision of the UN into a temporary government with full executive powers that prepares the necessary conditions for the election of a constitutional council to approve a democratic constitution and supervises impartial parliamentary elections".
