“The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith.” - Franklin Roosevelt 15 Minutes To Be Thankful For! Stop! Forget whatever you planned to do in the next 5 minutes and just sit back and enjoy this week’s edition of FairTax Friday. It’s been a GREAT week for the FairTax! Just the kind of week you want to have leading into Thanksgiving. Today’s updates are incredibly exciting and frankly, a joy to share. So, grab your favorite beverage, find a comfortable chair and spend a few minutes reading about the progress of the greatest tax replacement plan that has come before Congress in the past 100 years! Rep. Woodall: “Congressman Camp noticed” On Tuesday evening, Congressman Rob Woodall (GA-7), sponsor of HR 25, “The Fair Tax Act of 2013”, provided an incredible update during a brief Tele-Town Hall including discussing: •The pending vote on HR 25, the FairTax Act of 2013, by the Committee on Ways and Means •The scoring of HR 25 by the Joint Committee on Taxation •The process in Congress for a bill to become law •Repeal 16 and the FairTax Plan •The challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the FairTax Plan, and most importantly, •The incredible impact your donations; time, energy and talent have had on the FairTax Plan moving closer and closer to becoming the law of the land If you do nothing else, please take 15 minutes and listen to what the Congressman shared. I promise, you will not be disappointed! In fact, I am confident that you will be as energized as I am. Congressman Bridenstine Files “Repeal 16” On November 15, 2013, Congressman Jim Bridenstine (OK-1), co-sponsor of HR 25, filed legislation in the U.S. House to repeal the 16th Amendment. Repeal 16, a coalition of grassroots activists and support organizations taking action to end our corrupt tax system and the oppressive IRS, is championing this vital legislation. Americans For Fair Taxation is a proud member of the coalition and today, issued this press release in support of Congressman Bridenstine’s legislation. You can sign the Repeal 16 petition here. Herman Cain’s poll—the results are in! Once again, you have outdone yourself! This week Herman Cain announced on-air, the results of his recent national poll where he asked listeners to vote on the tax reform plan they wanted him to support – Cain’s own 9-9-9, the FairTax Plan, or a flat income tax. Drum roll… The FairTax smoked 9-9-9 and the flat tax! Congratulations to all of you and the rest of America who voted for the FairTax, and thanks to Herman for reaffirming what hundreds of thousands of Americans have been saying for years. There is only one tax replacement plan that represents the American people and that’s the FairTax. We look forward to having Herman honor his on-air commitment to once again serve as a voice of the FairTax! Truly Giving Thanks I’ve always loved Thanksgiving – the simplicity, the food and the time spent with family and friends. I also love that it is a time to reflect upon our blessings. The FairTax campaign is blessed to have such committed supporters as you. As Congressman Woodall said, you are the reason the FairTax is where it is – from your phone calls, letters and donations, to your Letters to the Editor, billboards, yard signs and the countless other things you do. You are the FairTax and the FairTax is you! Thank you. Finally, as we look back upon that tragic event 50 years ago today in Dallas, I leave with you an excerpt from President John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s 1961 Thanksgiving Proclamation: JFK “This year, as the harvest draws near its close and the year approaches its end, awesome perils again remain to be faced. Yet we have, as in the past, ample reason to be thankful for the abundance of our blessings. We are grateful for the blessings of faith and health and strength and for the imperishable spiritual gifts of love and hope. We give thanks, too, for our freedom as a nation; for the strength of our arms and the faith of our friends; for the beliefs and confidence we share; for our determination to stand firmly for what we believe to be right and to resist mightily what we believe to be base; and for the heritage of liberty bequeathed by our ancestors which we are privileged to preserve for our children and our childrens children. The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees The right of people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, Bridenstine said in a release. The 16th Amendment effectively negates the Fourth Amendment. The 16th Amendment should be repealed and the (Internal Revenue Service) should be eliminated. The 16th Amendment, adopted in 1913, resolved a long-running legal dispute over whether a federal income tax was constitutional. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of such a tax in 1881, then reversed itself in 1895… As a candidate, Bridenstine promised to be an advocate for the Fair Tax, a national sales tax promoted for decades as a replacement for the federal income tax. For many adherents, its primary appeal is the promise of abolishing the Internal Revenue Service… National sales tax could eliminate need for IRS – TimesUnion Your editorial suggesting scrapping the tax code is a great idea (Why not toss the tax code? Nov. 10). However, rather than start over with a new income tax, how about instituting a national sales tax and do away with the Internal Revenue Service altogether?
