-The true original sin- the beginning and root of the evils which beset our world- was born in the concept that a supposedly perfect God could create angels and humans so flawed that this assumedly all-powerful and benevolent God could not accept them or provide for them, rejected them out of spite and rage, evicted them into harsh exile or imprisonment, and continues to force suffering upon them, offering only the rewards and threats of two possibilities of afterlife- Heaven for the obedient and Hell for everyone else. The Origin Myth is not a story of divinity or an explanation of existence and humanity- it is a story depicting the origin of inequality and injustice in our society. Anarcho-Satanists reject the literal truth of this mythology while at the same time reinterpreting it for its figurative value. Our beliefs do not hinge on this mythology… the mythology hinges on our beliefs, because the mythology can be reinterpreted as our beliefs necessitate. The way we see it, Satan is the heroic character, the moralistic (and relatable) underdog seeking justice for the crimes committed by an unjust and (seemingly impervious) authority- this is an old story that has been told many times through human history using various characters and settings. Popular culture enshrines such epics as Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings, where a small group (including a hero) are made to suffer for their moral stance, but in the end defeat a mighty evil (and in both of those stories, the hero is made to suffer even more than the group due to the mistakes of an older parental figure of that hero). Even the Old Testament contains the fable of David and Goliath- in this fable, against all odds, a young ‘good’ boy kills a giant ‘evil’ warrior… we can easily draw parallels between David and Satan, as well as between Goliath and God. As we utilize a new perspective on Satanic mythology, it becomes a story that we are now a part of- as Satan fought and struggled and suffered to end God’s rule of inequality and injustice, so do we.
