“The word fitnah (trial and tribulation) is derived from the Arabic root fa-ta-na which linguistically means to burn gold or silver with fire to separate the precious metal from the ore known as the smelting process. Similarly, when there are trials and tribulations genuine Iman is extracted from the hypocrisy so that its people become clearly distinguishable just as gold becomes distinguished from the ore. So just as fitnah has the nature of bringing confusion it also brings clarity for those with sincerity. Hypocrisy will show its colors.” — Ustadh Abdus Shakur Brooks
