“The world will only become what it could be through the committed action of believers. We are not called to wait and watch what happens. A Christian is not a passive observer of world events, but an active catalyst of change. Jesus’s last words to his disciples were not to hunker down and patiently wait for the second coming. He didn’t tell them to find a safe place to hide where they could “keep the faith.” He said rather: “Go out to the whole world and make disciples of all the nations.” His last words were an enormous and daunting commission, a sending forth, and they were addressed to all of us.” “The light of the Church shines not just for an hour on Sunday morning. It must shine seven days a week. The Church in the world is the community of believers in Jesus Christ who bring their faith to bear on everything they do—in the home, in the office, in the classroom, at the mall, in the factory, at the grocery store, in the boardroom. There is an elderly woman in the parish where I work who lifts my heart every time I see her. Despite the many aches, pains, and difficulties of old age that must afflict her, all I see is her smile. And her smile makes the world—my world—a better place. It is her gift to me, and to many others. With her smile, she is an apostle of the Good News.” “ O Lord, I need courage to get out of the rut of being a bystander to human history. I need to be creative in pinpointing my contribution, now and in the future. Beginning today, I will keep my eyes open for every opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others.” Excerpt From: Father Jonathan Morris. “The Way of Serenity.” iBooks. https://itun.es/us/VzvBU.l
