"The “zero problems with the neighbours” policy (primarily based on a government to government approach) did not foresee that Turkish near abroad would have very soon experienced internal problems and that these problems could have soon been exported to Turkey. The Syrian crisis, but in general the revolts in the Arab world and in particular in Egypt, seem to contradict AKP’s geopolitical vision to privilege state to state relationships with Turkey’s neighbours in the former Ottoman space. This area today demonstrates its internal fragility and future regional instability in the medium term, both in the case that regime change will occur or in case of the survival of current regimes."
