“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ – Matthew 25:34-36 (NIV) Commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org This teaching should sober all of us. The person that approaches you on the street for some food reminds us of our commission to feed the hungry, to cloth the poor and help the helpless. You don’t have to randomly give money out to everyone, but you are commanded to be involved in some way to meet the needs of others. Jesus is waiting for you at the homeless shelter, in a prison, or in the face of a child needing a sponsor.
