‘They did not understand this saying; its meaning was concealed from them…. (Lk 9:45) Just when his deeds were amazing everyone, Jesus struck a discordant note by telling his disciples about his impending betrayal. The disciples did not understand this. And their non-comprehension was not only because of their limitations but by God’s design. We too may not always grasp he Word of God or His interventions in our world. It is God’s prerogative how much to reveal to us. Even so, we need to believe, ponder and proclaim his Word. As we acknowledge the presence of God in our lives, he touches us in ways best known to Him. Lately, I visited a neighbor without even knowing what she was going through and she poured out her feelings. It was a time of deep listening and sharing each others experiences. Convinced that it was a moment of God’s presence, we left each other I n great peace. True are the Words of God “ I will be a wall of fire around it…. And I will b the glory within it” (Zech 2:5) St. Wenceslaus, St. Lawrence Ruiz, and his companions, embraced suffering and martyrdom. It may not have made any sense to them; only their trust in the Lord whom they served sustained them. Mary and the disciples already showed them the way much earlier. FRUIT: Let me accept that I cannot comprehend all of God’s doings; yet I will remain steadfast in my faith.
