“They immediately left their nets and followed Him.” Matthew 4:20: “Then He said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23 NLT Somewhere along the line the gospel of Jesus Christ has been grossly perverted and degraded to material blessings of this life. Very few people are willing to drop their nets (their livelihood and goals) to follow Jesus. Rather than giving up everything, denying themselves, picking up their cross to follow Him they pursue their own goals to achieve worldly success, indulging in everything so if by wearing a cross (outward profession) they can say they follow Him.
