(This is not about any particular issue, but...) PLEASE write to your congressman EVERY ONE! It does matter. Here’s what you should know. While your representative may not see your specific letter, HIS AIDES WILL. Your letter will be read and turned into a number. Those numbers are important. In a sense, you have the opportunity to “vote” every single day. Before a member of Congress goes onto the floor to vote on any bill, he asks his aide “What do the numbers say?”, and THAT DOES INFLUENCE his vote. We all know the libtards are quite vocal and often dishonest, with numerous accounts of multiple identities. We need every rational conservative making his one voice heard to effectively counter this genuinely tiny minority. I’m speaking very directly to those Christians who think we’re supposed to just tag along and “pray for the king”. I know your theology, and God gave you a voice. Why would you “speak” to the devil, or your illness, or your finances, but not to your brothers in Christ or to the men and women who were elected TO REPRESENT YOU in Washington? That’s just mind-blowing! Also, unless you have specific materials that cannot be digitized, I’d suggest that email is better than snail mail. I had some very beneficial exchanges with Margaret Spellings when she was Secretary of Education and she explained much of the process to me. A physical letter does NOT go directly to your intended recipient. It goes to a clearing house where it is opened and inspected by government agents. You’d be amazed at what some people try to send into Washington. (Remember the recent ricin thing?) Email goes straight through and will be read (by someone) :) Use your real name and include your address. A local legislator will pay more attention to his own constituency, but they ALL want to know what you think. Also, (have to explain this to some folks) be very clear in what you are writing about. Be specific and be brief. (That part is especially hard for me!) :) DO NOT use innuendo or sarcasm. Not everyone will share your sensibilities and a misunderstanding is EXTREMELY likely. Just state that you are in favor or opposed to whatever piece of legislation, and possibly a few reasons why. If you have some statistics (they probably have those same numbers and a few more) use those, but don’t get off track. The important thing is that you DO have a voice, and you do not have to wait until November to use it. Edmund Burke never said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” What he DID say was “When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." Use your voice, please (for my sake!) :)
