(This one is repeated from 3 1/2 months ago. Apologies to those who have read it already, but it says what I wanted to say tonight...) Can we fathom a field; The workings of each and every flower at any given moment, As buds opens and leaves turn their faces toward the light And the wind stirs them to frantic, joyous dance? Or can we comprehend the whole of the sea in one thought, Every creature that dwells there, Rising upon swells that flash in the sun, Diving to dark depths On silvery fin? Can we grasp the entirety of the vast night’s sky that reveals itself Above us as day withdraws? Can we know the whole of each star or galaxy that splashes The black canvas, The swirling matter and spinning planets And reflective moons that ride the currents of their benign masters? Can we hold in one thought the totality of The universe? Of distance and time And timelessness? Such is wonder, Such is awe. Such is the startling breath of astonishment And the cleansing rush of humbleness that Is right and good, Allowing us to let go of small worries and frets, To surrender to the grandness of existence, In surrendering, Finding our rightful place, In finding our place, Finding peace. And in finding peace, Sleeping well. In sleeping well, Gaining renewed strength to Turn our faces Toward the light as day returns, To open our hearts, To dive and rise and dance As we are meant to dance.
