(Thoughts from my sauna time today....yes, its lengthy, lol) Just when I think that this disfigurement cannot get any uglier, the decay in my body surprises my imagination again. Utter Ugly is so hard on top of itching and pain. (But, friend, remember the Resurrection!) Last night was a glorious sunset, but it was in fade-away mode by the time Barry and I took a walk...a metaphor for where it feels like I am now. (Still hoping Im wrong!) (And still....the Resurrection!) Who doesnt glory in the multitude of color displayed amidst the clouds at the end of the day? Or the glisten of light on fresh piled and drifted snowfall? Or the brilliance of leaves at their peak mid-October? Or a the heat from a roaring fire on a cold night? Or the final strains of a symphony? Or a steaming hot cup of fresh made cocoa? Everything at its perfectly-tuned finest. However, fade-away twilight is dreary. The last of the muddy melting snow is dark and dingy, the crumpled brown of old leaves are work to be gathered up, the ashes provide no light nor heat, where there was music there is now silence, and the dregs of the mug must be washed away. What keeps us from complete disillusionment and despair is The Promise: of the enlightening sunrise tomorrow, the beauty of the blanket that those uniquely crafted snowflakes completes, the gentle glow of millions of leaves unlocking their stored sunshine next Autumn, a wood pile just waiting to be brought in and lit, other music to be heard, the gleaming clean cup awaiting the frothy hot chocolate-iness that we will savor again... Yes, the metaphors are everywhere. God will not leave me in the twilight for long....burnt out, washed up, dried out, spent and ugly. Everything in this world was pre-programmed to remind us of the Resurrection! We simply have to wait a little while... And if, when Im done staring at the glowing embers of the fire, if I look up...past the bare, leafless branches at the now black night sky with little patches of cloud that will bring the new snow....while I hold my hot mug and stir the fire just a little in the hopes of the last of the heat, then I see the stars that remind me of the infinitely incredible love of God for me and The Promise! and He gets a standing ovation from me! I believe in the Resurrection!
