#ThrowbackThursday Polar Express to Operate on Former Frisco Railway. A new chapter in the storied Frisco Railway is ready. The Polar Express will operate out of Bristow and reach the North Pole starting next month. The Eastern Flyer will also use a segment of this vast railroad. So what is the history of the Frisco? The map extracted from the below 1956 timetable is a good start. The St. Louis and San Francisco Railway, Frisco for short, operated between 1876 and 1980. The railroad was absorbed into the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1980. The Burlington Northern Railroad became the BNSF Railway in the late 1990s after acquiring the Santa Fe Railway. Many of the lines in this map have been abandoned; however, the basic structure connecting Kansas City, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Dallas, and Florida survives. The portion between Sapulpa and Midwest City is now a part of the Watco Companies LLC. Future expansion of the Eastern Flyer could reach Kansas City and St. Louis, possibly on former Frisco or other lines.
