“To Be With You” was released in 1991 by Mr. Big as the second single from their second album, Lean Into It. The song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted in over twenty countries, many in which it also reached #1. Eric Martin, the bands lead singer, wrote the song when he was still in high school. It’s been said that the song is about one of his older sister’s friends who would always tell him about her boy problems. He had a crush on her but never told her since he figured she would never go out with him since she was a senior and he was a sophomore. FYI…Mr. Big took their name from song “Mr. Big” by the band Free. The band originally formed with Eric Martin (415 / Eric Martin Band), Paul Gilbert (Racer X), Pat Torpey (Robert Plant, The Knack, & David Lee Roth Band), and Billy Sheehan (Talas, Steve Vai, & David Lee Roth). The four original members have continued to perform together with the exception of the period of 1999 – 2002 when Paul Gilbert left the band to reform Racer X and Ritchie Kotzen (Poison) came in to replace him on guitar and from 2002 – 2009 when the band had broken up. In Mid 2014 Pat Torpey announced that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and that Matt Starr, who is also Ace Frehley’s (Kiss) drummer, would fill in for him on the bands 2014 fall tour. Enjoy!
