“To everyone who voted, I hear you, to the two thirds of Americans who did not choose to participate in the election yesterday, I hear you too!” President Barak Obama’s comments Wednesday, November 6, 2014. I have stated before it is not my intent to engage in politics or the political world from the pulpit I occupy as pastor. My blog of September 4 this year was an effort to speak to the need, the right and the responsibility of all Christ-followers to vote. Quoting that blog: “For many years, I have been asked why I do not talk politics from the pulpit. In truth, the only comment I have ever tried to make in the way of a political statement from that sacred place is to say all believers in Jesus Christ have the responsibility to vote. It has always been my belief that if we exercised our right as voters and did so in concert with the will of God and the instructions of His Word, it would be satisfactory. I no longer hold that truth to be self-evident.” I must repeat my dismay again that I no longer hold that truth to be self-evident. From a spiritual perspective, I am appalled at the God-like quality of omniscience the president now offers as his reason for pressing forward with his agenda for America. Apparently it is no longer necessary for the American people to go to the polls to vote as the president can hear the will of the two-thirds of the American public who did not make it to the ballot box on Tuesday. I am instructed in the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans that I am to submit to the governing authorities and that “the authorities that exist have been established by God.” I do so. However, I have lost all respect for the man who occupies the office of the president. Mr. President, the American electoral process has, for over 200 years served our country, and those in public office, as a means for the will of the people to be heard. Your clairvoyance aside, please respect your office enough to “hear” the truth. Brad Cooper Wichita, Kansas
